Place a Hold/Request a Book from Lamar University

What happens when we "place a hold"?

  • While using the Library Catalog, users can "place a hold" on a book that is currently checked out, asking to be notified when the item becomes available. Notices are sent to official campus email accounts.
  • If a book is shown to be available in one of the 2nd floor circulating areas, Stacks, Fun Read, or Career Center, "placing a hold" requests that staff place the item on the hold shelf for one week. Items located in Reference or Reserves locations may not be placed on hold.
  • Books located in Lamar University's Mary and John Gray Library are transferred to the LSC-O library by placing a hold on the item. These items usually arrive on the Thursday after you placed the hold. 

How to place a hold:

  • Items located at LSC-O: While viewing the details screen on any book in our "Stacks" location, click "Place Hold" left side of the screen. Supply your campus ID number from the front of your campus ID card (a number beginning with R). PIN is your birth date as mmddyy. Print the page showing you have successfully placed a hold.
  • Items located at Lamar-Beaumont: After searching our catalog first and not finding all you need, go back to the catalog opening screen, use the "library:" drop down menu, normally set to search LSC-O's Ron E. Lewis Library. Highlight "Mary and John Gray Library" and repeat your search. All books found will be at Lamar-Beaumont.
  • Request a transfer: While viewing the details screen for a book in Beaumont, click "Place Hold" left side of the screen. Supply your campus ID number from the front of your campus ID card (number beginning with R). PIN is your birth date as mmddyy. (Highlight the location where you would like to pick up the item, if not Ron E. Lewis Library). Print the page showing you have successfully placed a hold.
  • If not successful: Problems with campus ID or PIN numbers are common. Ask for help at the check-out desk or the help desk on 2nd floor. If off campus, call (409) 882-3982.
  • Check on requested item by calling (409) 882-3982.
  • Pick up requested items at the check-out desk.
