Place a Hold/Request a Book from Lamar University
Students can place holds on books currently checked out from within the library catalog and they will be notified when the book becomes available. They can also place holds on books located at the Mary & John Gray Library at Lamar University, which generates a transfer request. A book transfered from Lamar University will normally arrive the following weekday afternoon after 4 p.m. Here are the steps:
1. Search for books or other items in our library catalog. If you do not find what you need, go back to our catalog's opening screen, find the "library:" drop down menu that is automatically set to Ron E. Lewis Library. Highlight "Mary and John Gray Library" and repeat your search. All books found will be at Lamar University (unless they are ebooks).
2. If you want to transfer a book from Lamar University to the LSC-O library, click the green "Details" button. Click the "Place Hold" link under the green "Keep" button, left side of screen.
3. "Place Hold" form appears. Supply your campus-wide ID number from the front of your student ID card. PIN is your birthday as mmddyy (unless you have changed it). Print the page showing you have successfully placed a hold.
4. Some students may have the older ID card, without the black magnetic strip on the back. If so, use your barcode number from the back of your ID card. Your PIN is changeme unless you have changed it. We are currently phasing out this older login method. Call (409) 882-3082 with any problems.
5. After asking for a book to be transferred, you can ask for your book at the main check-out desk the following weekday afternoon after 4 p.m. It may take an additional day for it to arrive. Check on your transferred item at (409) 882-3982.
