The Learning Center (TLC) is located in room 113 across the main foyer from the library and follows the same operating schedule. Computers in this lab provide standard office application software plus additional course-related programs and tutorials in basic math, English, reading and other subjects. Help is available for those needing to edit and revise composition papers, improve math or computer skills, or use of any of the software programs. Anyone wishing to use this lab must present a current Lamar ID card and follow procedures and policies for accessing these resources. For more information call Tony Barrientos at (409) 882-3935 or extension 3935. Or e-mail The Learning Center.

Library Orientations and Instruction
Critical evaluation of information is an essential skill in critical thinking. Faculty are encouraged to create assignments that help students learn these skills. We encourage you to let us help in this effort. Formal and informal instruction is available and is tailored to individual class assignments. Please try to schedule instruction as close as possible to the date students should begin working on an assignment. We like to have about a week's advance notice. Contact Marilyn Greene, instruction librarian, at (409) 882-3352, for additional information. Or use our online form: Library Instruction Request Form.
Reserves
A collection of special use material is maintained in the reserve office of the Ron E. Lewis Library. Faculty are encouraged to place any special reading materials in support of courses "on reserve." Copies of old tests and other study aids may be submitted for inclusion in the reserves collection. The library catalog has a "Reserve Desk" feature that lists all reserve materials by faculty name and course name. Forward all materials to Mary Holman (409) 882-3081 or extension 3081, along with any special instructions or unique circulation restrictions. Copyright law requires that this material is reviewed and updated annually.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
For resources not held in either the LSC-O or Lamar University libraries, please use the library's Interlibrary Loan service. The service is free to LSC-O faculty except when we must use a library that charges us. We make every effort to avoid costs to our users. Interlibrary Loan lending periods are determined by the lending library. Contact Mary Holman at (409) 882-3081 or extension 3081 with any questions. You can search in other libraries for their holdings by using the WorldCat database, a catalog of holdings of all types of libraries worldwide. For more information on ILL, read our Web page entitled Borrowing from other libraries. For online ILL requests use this form: Interlibrary Loan Request Form.
Computers/Copiers/Faxes/Microforms
The library provides computers equipped with current application software. A photocopy machine is available by the elevator on 2nd floor. Copies are 10 cents per page. Printing is free at library computers and microform machines. A large collection of microform is still used occasionally and some items are still purchased in microform justified by the lack of page images in the online format for some titles. A fax machine is used to expedite Interlibrary Loan requests, document delivery and other communication services.
Collection Development
Faculty are encouraged to make requests for new library materials. Requests may be made online by using the form: Suggest New Library Purchases. Please read the following set of Web pages to learn more about collection development:

Distance Learning
Please consult with us when you are planning to deliver your courses using WebCT and need to provide library materials to your students. We can provide you with persistent (non-changing) links to specific online periodical articles or e-books that may be useful. We can also work with you to deliver library print materials to your distant students or teach them how to do research using our online resources from home computers. A librarian can be scheduled to help with an on-campus orientation or to design an online tutorial. Contact Marilyn Greene at (409) 882-3084 or extension 3084. Just tell us how we can help!
