Help with Research and Assignments
Help Desks: Students and other library users who need help finding information or using the various course software systems can get help at the library help desks. Library staff are aware of specific course assignments and can help locate qualilty information and also assist with citing information in appropriate citation styles. The help desk on 2nd floor is located at the top of the stairs.
Help is also available by phone, e-mail and Desire2Learn's page button:
- Call either of our help desks at (409) 882-3082 or (409) 882-3982.
- The Ask A Librarian Form is available for brief questions via e-mail. We check our e-mail frequently while we are here and will answer e-mails usually within the hour received.
- Use the page feature of the new Desire2Learn courseware. Librarians and Learning Center Staff are now monitoring these pages while we are here.
Help is also available in The Learning Center: Tutoring in math, standardized test preparation, writing, computer applications and other subjects as needed. Stop by and discuss your needs or call (409) 882-3373 or simply e-mail them.
Library orientation and instruction: Faculty frequently arrange for their classes to come to the library for basic orientation or library instruction for course assignments. The goal of the library instruction program is to promote information literacy by teaching students how to gather information from both print and online resources and to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of that information to solve problems, form judgments and justify decisions. As a part of this goal, we encourage students to think critically about information in terms of its currency, authority, relevance, and biased or balanced viewpoint. These lifelong learning skills serve LSC-O graduates in their future workplaces and personal lives.
