Library Computer Labs
By logging onto a computer, the user agrees to observe all of the following policies. Failure to observe these policies will result in a user being banned from using the library computers.
Description of Computer Labs
- The library has two computer labs on the first floor. The smaller lab, Lab 126, is at the library entrance. Computers in Lab 126 are programmed for Web access only.
- The larger lab, Lab 131, is located beyond the stairwell. Lab 131 has computers configured for Web access plus additional office suite software and specific course-related software.
- The computers located on the 2nd floor of the library have the same basic configuration as the Lab 131 computers. Logins are required for accessing these computers.
Who May Use the Labs
- Computers located in the Ron E. Lewis Library are primarily intended for completing course-related academic assignments or other college-related activities. When students need to work on academic assignments, anyone using a computer for other reasons must relinquish his or her computer.
- The computer labs are open to students currently enrolled at Lamar State College-Orange and the other Lamar campuses. Current Lamar ID cards are required for using these labs. High school students who are co-enrolled at Lamar State College-Orange may use any of the computer labs by showing their current LSC-O ID cards.
- Current members of the Lamar State College-Orange Alumni Association may use Lab 126 computers after showing their current LSC-O alumni card. A lab worker will record the name and time of computer access. Computer usage is limited to one hour per day.
- Orange Public Library patrons may use Lab 126 computers by showing their current Orange Public Library cards along with their picture ID. After showing ID, a lab worker will record the name and time of computer access. Computer usage is limited to one hour per day.
- Travelers visiting the community who need to access the Web, may use the computers in Lab 126 by showing their picture ID. Computer usage is limited to one hour per day. After one week, if such persons still need to access these computers, they will need to acquire either an Orange Public Library card or an LSC-O Alumni card.

Youth Access
- Children under 16 years of age are not allowed to use the computers and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while in the library.
- High school students 16 years of age or older who are not co-enrolled at Lamar State College-Orange must have a current Orange Public Library card along with a picture ID to check out library materials and use the computers in Lab 126.
- Library staff will not act in the place of parents in keeping with the principles of equal access to information. We do not restrict any registered library user from accessing any materials available in the library, including computer information. If a parent or guardian does not wish his or her child to access particular materials, the parent or guardian should discuss restrictions with his or her child in the context of the parent-child relationship.
Using the Computers
- The computer labs close 10 minutes before the library closing time. Leave promptly when staff ask you to leave the computer lab.
- Lab users without Lamar ID cards are allowed to use the computers for one hour per day. Keep track of your time and leave promptly at the end of the hour.
- It is a criminal offense under Texas state law to give your personal usernames, passwords, PINs or any of the LSC-O computer lab logins to anyone else under any circumstances.
- Never do anything illegal, threatening or deliberately destructive while using the computers.
- Never use the computers or their output for commercial gain.
- Never use the computers or their output to advertise or promote activities other than those sponsored by the college.
- Never intentionally retrieve online material that might be considered pornographic by other lab users or staff. Such material, if exhibited in a public space, can result in a sexually hostile environment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. If such material does appear on the computer, close the screen immediately.
- It is a criminal offense to download copyrighted programs or other data (music, etc.) without having legal rights to do so. Library subscription database services are licensed for on-campus use by all users and for off-campus use by students and staff of Lamar State College-Orange via network logins.
- Food and drinks are not allowed in computer labs. Water in a clear bottle is allowed, but not at the computers where spills can cause damage.
- Turn cell phones off or to vibrate mode and take phone conversations outside the library.
- Check out headphones to listen to audio.
- Avoid excessive or unnecessary printing. Do not print more than 25 pages per day unless fulfilling the requirements of a course assignment requiring such printing.
- Lab users are also expected to observe rules of civil behavior and exhibit courtesy toward other lab users and staff.
